1997 Ural Italia with 2001 engine/trans Vehicle Description 1997 Ural Italia with 2001 engine/trans Vehicle Description Re-Listing Lower price! This is a 1997 Ural Italia 650 with sidecar and single rear wheel drive. It should be noted that the mileage is in Kilometers, so it is 44,950 Kilometers or around 30,000 mles. The fellow I bought this bike from tells me the engine was replaced approximately 10,000 Kilometers ago. The old guy who owned it could not kick start it any longer so upgraded with new 2001 engine/trans unit with electric start. (I do not have the original eng/trans). Anyway, shortly after I bought it the wiring harness shorted out and was ruined. I have rewired the bike for headlite, taillite, brakelite front and rear, and electric start. I never got to turn signals or idiot lights on dashboard. The bike is now legal and I have ridden it approximately 1200KM's with no problem. The alternator charges very well(13.4vdc) and the bike has all basic needs met. As far as the rest of the bike, it does not use any oil, clutch and trans work well, electric start and kick start also work fine. The bike was left ungaraged by a previous owner for a period of time some salty sea air has made its way to the metal and various degrees of surface rust and scale. The rear tire is fairly new but it could use the front tire and chair tire replaced -3.50/19". The engine runs very well, it is a 1 kick start machine. It handles...well like a russian bike with a side car. You have to be careful and get used to its quirks, but once you learn it can be ridden pretty briskly. It works best with 100lbs or so in the sidecar but is also OK without any weight. My wife road in the chair once and said it felt like the wild mouse ride, but others I have ridden in it have enjoyed it. It is happiest at 45-50MPH. I do have the spare tire and rack which mounts on the chair trunk lid, plus I have the chair windshield and fairing for the bike(ugly). Also have stock air box. I took these parts off and the bike runs and rides much better without them. I also have most of a solo seat, new headlite bucket(old one is rusty) and instrument nacelle. This is a great bike if you want a reasonable price sidecar rig to haul the kids, dog or wife around the neighborhood with. It is also very trustworthy and makes a great solo ride to go camping, fishing or running errands. I have put a couple of 200mile + days with no problem. You can ride as is or make a project out of it. All in all it is very cool and pleasing to own and gives you a great grin factor. Comes with factory shop manuals and tool kit as well. New ones cost $12-14,000, so this is a pretty good bargain. Thanks for looking.
